Biography
Neighbourhood Tower is a project by Helsinki-based artist and DIY producer Markku Ruottinen. Neighbourhood Tower creates atmospheric alternative music by blending elements of pop, rock, krautrock, AOR, and shoegaze.
Neighbourhood Tower was born around 2018 when I started going through some demos I had written with electric piano on my computer. The first three-song EP, Talking Wind, was released in 2019.
During the COVID year of 2020, there was plenty of time to stay inside and produce music. This resulted in the single A Wave of It All in 2020. A second five-track EP, titled Terror & Silence, was released on April 30, 2021. Since then, Neighbourhood Tower has released two singles: A Different Kind of Light in 2022, followed by Irresistible Party Zone / Crossing Time in 2023.
Over the past couple of years, Neighbourhood Tower has been slowly writing and producing new material in a home studio. Latest single, Stranger in a Strange Land, was released for streaming on January 10, 2025. A new debut album called "Channeling Darkness (Discovering the LIght)" will be released in April 17, 2026.
